QUOTE SUBMISSION CHECKLIST

The Tank take

A scaffolding quote normally needs business identity, activity and project splits, maximum height, scaffold types, turnover, wages, subcontractor payments, experience, licences, claims history, required limits and risk controls. Complex work may require contracts, procedures or additional questionnaires.

Answer for the period being insured and disclose planned changes. If an estimate is uncertain, explain the basis rather than presenting it as a known figure.

Business and people

  • full legal names, ABNs, trading names and related entities requiring cover;
  • years trading and principals' scaffolding experience;
  • staff numbers, roles, wages and applicable licence classes;
  • labour-hire use and payments to bona fide subcontractors;
  • states and territories of operation; and
  • current insurer, renewal date and reason for marketing the policy.

New ventures may need principals' CVs or evidence of previous experience. Confirm which entity signs contracts and invoices clients.

Activities, scaffold systems and height

Break down revenue across erection, alteration, dismantling, inspection, hire, sales, import, manufacture, transport, design and consulting. State the highest possible fall or working height accurately and describe scaffold types, including modular, tube-and-coupler, mobile, cantilevered, hung, suspended or mast-climbing systems.

Declare work near powerlines, over public areas, roads, rail or water and any work at demolition, asbestos, industrial, mining, petrochemical, airport, marine or infrastructure sites. Also state activities not performed where that distinction is material.

Speak to a specialist

Height work needs the right market, not more form-filling

Tell us your maximum height, project mix and the limit your contract requires. We take it to insurers with genuine scaffolding appetite.

Financial, contract and cover information

  • last completed and forecast turnover;
  • wages and subcontractor payments for the policy period;
  • largest completed and expected contract values;
  • residential, commercial, industrial and civil percentage splits;
  • public liability limit and any products aggregate required;
  • principal's indemnity, waiver, cross-liability or interested-party clauses;
  • scaffold, tools, depot stock and hired-in equipment values; and
  • vehicle and trailer details if motor cover is requested.

Attach the insurance clause for unusual or high-limit contracts. A broker cannot reliably assess compliance from the words “$20M required” alone.

Claims, incidents and insurance history

Provide claims and loss history for the period requested, including closed, open and uninsured incidents. Disclose known circumstances, allegations, near misses where relevant to the questions, prior cancellations, special terms and insurer declines. Explain dates, cause, amount, status and remediation.

Do not omit a matter because you believe it was someone else's fault. Let the underwriter assess materiality. If uncertain about a disclosure obligation, ask before submitting.

Risk documents that may help

Depending on the work, underwriters may ask for licence evidence, SWMS examples, scaffold inspection and handover procedures, maintenance records, training matrices, subcontractor onboarding, incident reporting, contract templates, engineering controls or component specifications.

These documents support underwriting; they do not prove compliance for every job. Safe Work Australia notes that applicable licensing, SWMS and inspection duties arise under WHS frameworks, and state or territory rules should be checked directly.

FINAL CHECKS

Before accepting the quote

The submission wins the terms; these checks make sure the bound policy matches the business that was described.

01

Check entities and description

Confirm every legal entity, trading name and the business description match how you actually contract and invoice.

02

Verify the restrictions

Height, activity, location and industry restrictions against the coming year's projects - not last year's.

03

Confirm the numbers

Limits, excesses, products aggregates and whether defence costs sit inside or outside the limit.

04

Clear the subjectivities

Read every subjectivity on the quote and provide each outstanding document before inception.

05

Get binding confirmation

Obtain written confirmation that cover is bound before relying on it. A quote is not a policy.

Primary guidance

Check the rules where the work is performed

Safety and licensing duties sit outside your insurance policy. These regulator sources are the starting point.

External government sources. Tank Insurance is not responsible for their content; confirm current requirements with the relevant regulator.
